Barry County residents are provided state funded and approved substance abuse prevention and treatment services through a regional planning group which includes representatives from Branch, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and VanBuren Counties as well as Barry County. The Coordinator for this Regional Authority is Charles Spence, Ph.D. who serves under Jeff Patton, Executive Director of Kalamazoo County Community Mental Health Services, 3299 Gull Road, Nazareth, Michigan, immediately north east of Kalamazoo. The Regional Coordinating Agency has been establishing plans for providing services in this six county region for the upcoming three year period and on December 1, 2006 sent forward its plan to Michigan’s Department of Community Health. It is expected that this document will guide decisions pertaining to delivering services to the residents of these six counties and so should be of interest to stakeholders and consumers. Please provide remarks you may have directly to Dr. Spence at the address or phone provided on the introductory letter of the Plan or you may send them to me and I will compile them and make them available to him.
