Board of Directors
Our agency operates under the charter of the Barry County Board of Commissioners and is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Commission. Our 8 member Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse mix of individuals and local government people who serve as volunteer representatives of the community.
Board meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00 am. and are open to the public. When meetings are changed from that time, a notice is posted on the bulletin board at the Courts & Law Building and on the ground floor of the County Courthouse building as well as on this web site. We welcome your attendance and appreciate your ideas.
If you will need special accommodations in order to benefit from attending a board meeting, please call 269.945.1284 and let us know your needs.
If you would like to serve on our Board of Directors, please contact the Barry County Administrators Office at 269.945.1285 and request an “Application for Position On A Barry County Board or Commission” form. They will assist you in making application to the Personnel Committee of the County Commission.

Counseling Staff
BCSAS strives to make qualified and skilled counselors available to Barry County residents. We have friendly and knowledgeable social workers and psychologists on staff to assist you in making the changes that will be important to support a healthy and contented lifestyle supportive of recovery, as well as support staff who help to make your involvement in counseling enjoyable.
Our staff are certified through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals with the Certified Addictions Counselor credential. The CAC requires the practitioner to maintain professional education during their career, so you can be confident that your counselor has been trained in the latest professional techniques.
Our Preventionists make up our highly capable Prevention Team here at BCSAS. A Community Preventionist works with other human services programs in the community to identify and put in place collaborative projects that reduce the incidence of substance abuse through encouraging changes to the community environment.
Prevention Staff
Our school-based Preventionist works in schools serving Barry County students, including Delton Kellogg Public Schools, Hastings Public Schools, Thornapple-Kellogg, Maple Valley and Lakewood Public Schools as well as several private schools.
Both are Certified Prevention Consultants and carry baccalaureate degrees from Michigan colleges. They have sixteen and five years experience in the field, respectively.
BCSAS Prevention services strives to bring research based and/or theory driven and, where possible, are federally approved prevention programs.
BCSAS has one of the few accredited prevention programs in Michigan, having been approved by the Counsel on Accreditation for Children and Family services in July, 2006.
